A small group of people specially trained for a particular purpose

Matt Cassabon

Co-Founder/Director of Operations

Born and raised in Greenville, SC, Matt went on to earn a very useful History degree from the College of Charleston. A few years down the road, he returned to recieve his MBA from Clemson University and open The Outpost Training Facility. When Matt isn't directing The Outpost’s business operations or running group classes, he serves in the US Army Reserves and has for the past 10 years.

Josh Formaneck

Co-Founder/Director of Fitness

Don’t let the Canadian accent fool you – Josh is all American muscle, all the way from North Dakota. Josh has served for 6 years in the North Dakota National Guard and now in the South Carolina National Guard. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mandarin from The University of North Dakota and then a second degree in Secondary Education from North Dakota State University. Josh holds the NETA PT certification and has spent the last 3 years as a personal trainer. He specializes in strength and athletic training.

Jake German

Functional Fitness Coach

Jake’s story started like many great ones do – just man and his dog. As a K-9 Handler in the United States Marine Corps (circa 2011) Jake discovered CrossFit and the intricacy of functional fitness while on active duty. His infatuation with the variability of training moved him across the state from Beaufort to Greenville, after getting out of the Marines, to start coaching full time at Swamp Rabbit CrossFit. Aside from his CF L2 and certifications in kettlebell, weight lighting and gymnastics - he’s just a regular joke-tellin’ guy ready to help you achieve your personal best at The Outpost.

Ben Hudgins

When Ben isn't attending classes at North Greenville University or hanging out with his big ass dog, Oscar, he can be found at his second home - the gym. Ben is currently working towards his CrossFit Level 1 Certification and is also a member of the United States Marine Corps.

Murphy Cassabon

Gym Dog

Feeling obligated to support local rescue missions, Murphy rescued Matt Cassabon in December 2014, and the two have been inseparable ever since.  Murphy’s day-to-day responsibilities include attracting new members and cat maintenance. Fun fact: Murphy was once hit by a car and walked away unscathed, earning him the title The Outpost’s Most Badass Employee. In his spare time, Murphy enjoys long walks on the pavement and sniffing stuff.
